Advisers Who Answer for Every Decision
The Modern Practice team is intentionally small — every client has direct access to a senior adviser, not a relationship manager who delegates to a back-office.
Meet the Team
Built for Depth, Not Scale
Modern Practice made a deliberate choice when it was founded in 2014: to remain a boutique firm where the partner who designs your mandate is also the person you call when markets move sharply. We have not expanded beyond a size where that promise can be kept. Each adviser holds a maximum of twenty active mandates, ensuring that every portfolio receives the attention it requires. Our team background spans institutional fixed income, actuarial science, EU regulatory compliance, and family office management — a combination that is unusual in the Craiova market and directly relevant to the structures we build. The warm terracotta-cream aesthetic of our Strada Unirii office reflects our conviction that serious financial conversations should happen in an environment that does not feel clinical or impersonal.
Our Core Team
Four advisers and one operations specialist form the permanent Modern Practice team.
-
Alexandru Ionescu — Managing Partner
Alexandru founded Modern Practice after twelve years in institutional fixed-income trading at a Bucharest investment bank. He holds the CFA designation and a postgraduate degree in EU financial regulation from the University of Bucharest. He leads mandate design for business owner and high-net-worth family clients.
-
Cristina Popa — Senior Adviser, Structures
Cristina specialises in insurance-based investment wrappers and holding vehicle design. Before joining Modern Practice in 2016, she spent six years as an actuarial consultant for a regional insurance carrier, a background that gives her an unusual ability to read the fine print of unit-linked contracts on behalf of clients.
-
Radu Marin — Adviser, Risk Analytics
Radu joined in 2019, bringing five years of quantitative risk experience from a Bucharest-based asset manager. He maintains the risk-monitoring models that underpin our drawdown policies and produces the quarterly risk reports that clients receive as part of their governance cycle.
-
Diana Gheorghe — Adviser, Cross-Border Compliance
Diana joined in 2021 and focuses on clients with assets or residency across multiple EU jurisdictions. She has a master's degree in EU tax law and coordinates with partner advisers in Germany, Italy, and Austria to ensure that cross-border mandates remain compliant as regulations evolve.
“What struck me was that Cristina had already read the full product disclosure statement of the insurance wrapper she recommended — and she explained the surrender charges, the fund switching limits, and the estate treatment in plain language before I asked. I have never experienced that level of preparation from a financial adviser before.”
Gheorghe Stoian, Dolj County — retired engineer
Professional Standards and Ongoing Development
Every member of the Modern Practice advisory team holds a relevant professional qualification and is subject to continuing professional development requirements. We align our practice standards with the CFA Institute's Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, even where Romanian regulatory minimum standards would permit a less rigorous approach. We regard this voluntary commitment as a competitive differentiator and a signal to clients that we operate to a standard that can withstand external scrutiny. When regulatory requirements change — as they have repeatedly under MiFID II and PRIIPs — we retrain proactively rather than waiting for compliance deadlines.
Speak Directly with a Senior Adviser
Initial consultations at Modern Practice are always conducted by a senior team member — not an intake coordinator. Call us or submit a request to schedule a confidential conversation.
